Discover the best gym climbing ropes for your crossfit climbing workout.
If you are looking for the best crossfit climbing ropes, you’ve come to the right place.
In this article you can look at all the best battle ropes for sale. There are plenty to choose from.
There are different types of ropes for heavy rope workouts (if you want a rope workout for your arms), but all the ones in this guide are for rope climb crossfit workouts.
There are a few things you have to consider when choosing the best crossfit rope for yourself. One is what the rope is made out of. Different materials are better for different uses. I will go over the different rope materials in a bit.
Another consideration is the anchoring, i.e., how you with hang it. Different rope ends means different needs for hanging the rope, or if you can even hang it at all.
Since this article is for climbing ropes, there are no ropes reviewed here that you cannot hand. However, you can use any of these as a crossfit battle rope if you want. The reverse is not true since if you can’t hang it, you can’t climb it.
Here’s a handy reference list of all the climbing weighted ropes in the guide. See all the best gym climbing rope reviews below!
Below are some key factors to consider when choosing a climbing rope to ensure you get something that’s well-suited to your battle rope training program.
Jute
Jute is a versatile vegetable fiber and is popular for climbing rope because of it’s flexibility and toughness.
Manila
They make Manila rope from manila hemp fiber (from the leaves of the abaca). It is the most common rope material for fitness battle ropes.
You can use manila climbing ropes either indoors or outdoors, but it is not waterproof. The Manila fibers make it easier to climb but tougher on your hands.
Nylon
Nylon rope is more durable than the above natural fibers and it doesn't shed, but it's harder to climb.
Polydac
Polydac is a "combo rope". It has a polypropylene core with a polyester cover. They are great for indoor use since they don't shed like the natural fiber ropes.
They are lighter than other ropes as well.
Sisal
Sisal is another natural fiber rope. It is similar to, but not as durable as manila rope.
There are 2 types of anchoring for crossfit climbing ropes. A looped eye or a clasp. If the rope has neither of these, then it is an aerobic battle rope, not a climbing one.
Looped Eye
You can tie a looped eye anchor to most round surfaces. They are easy to set up and you don't need a mounting bracket.
Metal Clasp
A metal clasp anchor is usually nailed through the rope. It is a very secure hold but you need a mounting bracket to attach it.
For size of your climbing gym rope you need to consider diameter and length.
1.5 inches in diameter is the most common. Anything less than that is too hard to grip. Thicker ropes are good too e.g., 2 inch. They are more durable than a 1.5 inch, but the thicker they are the harder they are to climb.
As for length, most manufacturers have heavy rope for sale in a variety of lengths. 25 feet is common as it is versatile. Longer ropes are heavier and unless you really need it that long the extra length is more of a nuisance. Shorter cheap battle ropes are available too, as little as 3 feet.
These are all the climbing gym rope reviews. I have put my top choices first and the rest in no particular order, except that the looped eye anchor ropes are before the metal clasp ones.
