Do You Have What it Takes to Survive?

Learn about escape, evasion and survival as a whole as well as how I got into it and why it's part of the Survival Fitness Plan.

Knowing fight and flight skills are great for getting away from human threats, but what about everything else?

Well, that’s where escape, evasion and survival (EES) comes in, and that’s what this article's topic is all about.

Read on and you will learn what escape, evasion, and survival is, how I got into it, and why it's part of the Survival Fitness Plan.

Vlog

Escape and Evasion

Escape and evasion is a bit hard to define as there are many things involved.

Perhaps the easiest way to look at it is from a personal security perspective.

Imagine you are kidnapped in a foreign country. The knowledge you gain from escape and evasion subjects is what will help you get away, e.g, forced entry and exit techniques, lock picking, negotiation, evasive driving, and more.

Think of Jason Bourne trying to evade the government.

It also covers a lot of subjects on prevention, such as home and online security, how to tell if you're are being followed, the best places to hide your valuable, etc.

Wilderness Survival

Wilderness survival is all about surviving in the great outdoors. Actually most wilderness survival skills can be applied in urban scenarios also.

It is all about obtaining your survival needs.

Maybe you have the equipment, but there is more to that. You need to know how to find water, shelter, build a fire, create rescue signals, navigation, first aid, etc.

In the Survival Fitness Plan, we focus on evasive wilderness survival, which is how to survive in the wild while also not being caught by your enemy.

For example, in a normal survival situation, you’ve lit a fire and you can use it to signal other people and get rescued, but in an evasive survival situation you don’t want to alert people. Instead, you need to build a covert fire (such as a Dakota fire hole) or if it’s not too cold, go without one completely.

What Do I Know About it?

As with all the other Survival Fitness Plan subjects, I'm no expert on EES.

Although I do have some professional training with bushcraft and escape and evasion via the military and as an outdoor leader, I'm not winning any TV show survival contests.

However, I'm pretty confident I could survive on a deserted island for longer than the average person, and I'd give escaping a kidnapping a pretty good crack.

Conclusion

If you want to look at the related training manuals for today you can do that here:

The last article in this introduction series is a bit different because we have covered all the training subjects. But it is something very close to my heart and I really want to share with you...

Safe Training :)
