3 Hiking Essentials

If you could only take 3 things when going for your next hike, what would they be?

I don't like to carry a lot of stuff. Even when I fly I prefer to just bring what I can carry on.

But if I'm going on a hike in the wilderness, there are some essential items I'll be sure to bring.

WATER

Do you know what to carry on a day hike?

I normally bring a little day pack with me, and I always have water with me.

Water is essential in our daily life, even if we only do the bare minimum.

When I travel or go out, I usually just bring a little bottle of water because you can always buy extra water in urban places.

But when I go hiking in the wilderness I'll take at least 1 liter, more likely two. This is even if I think I’ll only be a few hours, because you never know what might happen.

I also like to carry a water filter or some purifying tablets.

Mini Survival Kit

This one is a bit of a cheat because a survival kit has a lot of stuff in it.

You can buy these already made or make one yourself. Just get a small tin (like an altoid tin) and put some survival essentials in it, like matches, paracord, fishing gear, etc.

Cellphone

The last essential thing that I consider to have when hiking is a cell phone.

A useful item to have, especially on a day hike.

If you get lost, you can just call for help. It also has a bunch of useful apps, such as maps.

Conclusion

Water, cell phone, and a mini survival kit. These are my top three things I take when going on any hike, even if it’s just for a few hours.

Of course, if I'm going on a multi-day hike, I'll take more stuff, like sleeping gear, extra food and clothes.

Safe Training everyone!
