My 3 Favorite Martial Arts Movies of All Time

In this article I am going to share with you my 3 favorite martial art movies of all time.

I got into martial arts because we had this family friend that liked watching ninja movies. It was back in the ’80s when ninja flicks were popular - to be honest I was probably way too young to watch them. Many of them were rated R18+ and were really graphic.

Bruce Lee’s movies were in the ‘70s and were before my time. I only really discovered Bruce Lee in the 90’s.

I always wanted to be a ninja and I guess the Survival Fitness Plan is an extension of my inner child to become a modern-day ninja. I still remember that I used to practice with my brother and just fight imaginary people in the backyard.

My 3 Favorite Martial Arts Movie of All Time

1. Dragon Lord

The first martial art movie is ‘Dragon Lord by Jackie Chan.

I loved Jackie Chan as a kid, especially his old Hong Kong movies. He actually first started as a stunt man then gradually made his own movies. This was one of the first movies I saw and I was really amazed at how he did all of his stunts.

There was another movie called ‘Armor of God’ where Jackie did a famous stunt. At the end of that movie, he tapes firecrackers to his shoes then lights them up. He uses them to ‘fly’ from a cave on a mountain to a hot air balloon!

2. Enter the Dragon

My second pick is ‘Enter the Dragon’ with Bruce Lee.

This is my favorite Bruce Lee movie. Second place goes to ‘The Big Boss’ which I think was his first movie, or at least his first real success.

When I discovered Bruce Lee in the ‘90s, I admired him as most people do. He only made a few movies but all of them are great.

3. John Wick Series

For my third martial art movie, I chose something more recent than the other two, and it’s a bit of a cheat because it’s a series of movies.

It’s the John Wick series starring Keanu Reeves.

What I love about this movie is how full-on the fight scenes are. I did have a hard time picking between a lot of movies such as Mission Impossible and The Matrix which also have some good fighting scenes and special effects.

Conclusion

Well, that’s my top 3. I could have easily made it top 10 or 20, and I'm not even sure if these are my very top favorites. There are so many great martial arts films out there and I'm sure there are many more to come.

I have always thought about the actors who train for these movies. They must learn how to fight really well. I think the reason John Wick and The Matrix were so good was because Keanu Reeves trained really hard for them.
