Where would you rather do your swim training?

In open water or a pool?

In this article, we discuss the benefits of swimming in open water.

To learn about the benefits of swimming in a pool, go here.

Realistic

Swim training in open water is a much more realistic scenario than pool swimming because, in a survival situation, you will most likely be in open water.

Open water has many elements that can not be replicated in a pool, such as waves, riptides, strainers, animals, etc.

More Challenging

Swimming in open water is unquestionably more challenging for the same reasons that it is more realistic.

You may have waves, colder temperatures, and other obstacles.

Connect With the Earth

Swimmingin open water is a good opportunity to connect with nature.

Whether in a lake, river, sea, or ocean, interacting directly with nature not only provides a beautiful experience but also has health benefits that you may not be aware of.

Conclusion

In conclusion, learning to swim in open water provides a more realistic, challenging experience that allows you to connect with nature.

However, I believe that when you're first learning to swim, it's best to practice in a pool rather than in open water since you can establish good habits in a controlled environment.

And if you hate or are unable to access open water, then just head to your local pool instead. Anything is better than nothing!
