Most self-defense advice tells you to always run first.
That advice can get you hurt.
Running only works when the conditions are right. Otherwise, it makes things worse.
Here are the 3 times running is the smartest move.
1. You Are Confident You Can Outrun Them
Running only works if you are faster.
If they are quicker and close distance, you lose energy and leverage fast.
Getting caught while winded is worse than standing your ground.
If you know you can create distance and keep it, run immediately.
2. You Have No Clean Target To Disrupt Them
Sometimes escape requires a brief disruption first.
If there is no clear opening to stun, strike, or off-balance them, your only option may be flight.
Running without a clean target is risky.
But standing still with no option is worse.
When there is nothing to hit and no way to buy time, run anyway.
3. The Odds Are Overwhelmingly Against You
Weapons change everything.
Multiple attackers change everything.
In these situations, even if you think you might get caught, running creates chaos and uncertainty.
Standing still guarantees damage.
When the numbers or tools are stacked against you, run on instinct and don’t look back.
The Least Bad Option
Run only when running improves your odds.
Otherwise, it drains them.
Self-defense is not about rules.
It is about choosing the least bad option under pressure.
Self-defense + Parkour + Fitness = You're Unstoppable!
