3 Simple Ways You Can Homestead in the City

Think you can’t be a homesteader while living in the city?

Lots of people do it, and you can too…

Here are a couple of easy homesteading projects to get you started!

Homesteading in the City Vlog

Shared Gardens

Shared garden plots are becoming more and more popular in urban environments.

When I lived in England, I had a friend who joined this kind of thing where you have a plot in the yard and you can grow whatever you want. You’d be surprised how much can be grown in such a short area using modern cultivation techniques.

And if shared gardening isn’t your thing (or isn’t available) you can try growing a small garden in your apartment, such as a herb garden.

You could even create a small food forest on your balcony if you have one.

Food Preservation

After you’ve grown your plants, make sure you know how to preserve them so they don’t go to waste.

You can buy a dehydrator or learn canning.

Sure, you’re not going to carve up a wild animal and smoke the meat, but you can easily produce dried fruits, canned tomatoes, and other things.

Scratch Cooking

Scratch cooking is cooking from raw ingredients as opposed to buying processed food. For example, making your own bread or pasta from flour.

This way of eating is cheaper and healthier.

Making simple flat bread is a very simple process. All you have to do is mix flour, water, salt, and a little oil, flatten it out and put it under the grill, in the oven or on a skillet. If you really want to ‘bear bones’ it, all you need is flour and water.

Many other things are just as simple to do.
