How to Land Safely in Parkour

A lot of parkour injuries can be avoided simply by knowing how to land properly. In this article you will learn 3 of my favorite ways to land in parkour.

A lot of parkour injuries can be avoided simply by knowing how to land properly.

In this article. you will learn three of my favorite ways to land in parkour.

Parkour Landing Vlog

Safety Tap

Use a safety tap for when you are dropping vertically and landing on your feet. The idea is to soften the impact of the drop by allowing your joints to collapse under control.

Land on your toes rather than your heels because landing on your heels may cause injury due to the vertical shock.

As you continue to land, allow your knees to bend and your torso to crouch as needed for balance.

You may or may not touch the ground with your hands.

Safety Roll

This landing technique is probably one of the most commonly used in parkour.

You can use either an over-the-head roll or one that goes over your shoulder like in martial arts.

I prefer over the shoulder as it protects your head more from being hit and allows you to use your back or shoulder as a shield to absorb the impact of falling.

Break Fall

The final one is known as the break fall.

This landing technique is not done on purpose. You may have a fall but are unable to use the previous two techniques.

When most people fall, they instinctively put their hands down, causing one part of their body to absorb the shock.

That won't happen in a break fall because you're spreading your weight across your entire body.

The most important thing with the break falls is to keep your head from hitting the ground.

Conclusion

So those are my three favorite parkour safety landing techniques: the safety tap, the safety roll, and the break fall.

Of course, ‘prevention is the best cure’. You can avoid unintentional tumbles by simply scanning the area where you are going to train.
