The 3 Most Common Beginner Parkour Mistakes

Starting out with parkour? Here are some common mistakes beginners make. Check them out so you can avoid them and continue to train injury free!

Starting your parkour journey?

Well, this is for you!

Here are the three most common parkour mistakes to avoid in order to stay safe.

Common Parkour Mistakes Vlog

Too Hard, Too Fast

Overestimating your parkour abilities can lead to accidents and injury.

Training should be done progressively as a beginner. Start by practicing and mastering the basics before moving on to more challenging techniques.

Being good at one thing takes time and effort. Be gentle with yourself, and you'll be better in no time.

No Conditioning

Another common mistake is training without conditioning.

If you start doing flips and tricks at the beginning of your training, you risk the possibility of straining and hurting yourself. It is far better (and safer) to condition your body before attempting new movements.

For example, before trying a kong vault, practice ground kongs to increase strength and mobility.

Same as when performing pull-ups. If you're not used to it, condition your body by starting with easy hangs and progressing to little pull-ups until you can do full pull-ups.

Slippery Surfaces

It is a good idea to check all the surfaces you will be training on

Wet or moldy surfaces may be slippery, and you should also check for anything sharp or whatever else has the potential to injure you.

Conclusion

Many injuries can be easily avoided by training safely and progressively. Remember to condition yourself and begin with the basics. If you stick with it, you'll eventually get better and be able to perform difficult techniques.
